Ratha Yatra 2025: Divine Chariots Roll Through Puri

On June 27, 2025, the sacred city of Puri, Odisha, comes alive with one of India’s grandest festivals—Ratha Yatra, the annual chariot procession of Lord Jagannath, his sister Subhadra, and brother Balabhadra.

This year’s Yatra follows an elaborate spiritual timeline:

  • June 11: Snana Purnima (sacred bath of deities)
  • June 26: Gundicha Marjana (temple cleaning)
  • June 27: Grand Chariot Procession
  • July 1–6: Return Journey, Hera Panchami, Suna Besha (gold adornment), and Niladri Bijay

Three massive chariots, handcrafted from sacred wood, are pulled by millions of devotees down the Grand Road from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple. The act of pulling the chariots is considered deeply auspicious.

Beyond devotion, the festival is a celebration of culture—featuring traditional Odia art, dance, music, and incredible community spirit. Pilgrims flood Puri from all corners of the globe, turning the city into a sea of faith.

Travel Tip: Book early, carry rain gear, and soak in not just the divine energy—but also Puri’s nearby treasures like Konark Sun Temple, Chilika Lake, and Raghurajpur craft village.
